About
USIMS
Marine Science at the University of Sydney dates
back to the 1880's. The Marine Studies Centre was established in
1970 and the University of Sydney Institute of Marine Science (USIMS)
in 2002. The University of Sydney Institute of Marine Science provides
for undergraduate students units of study of a trans-disciplinary
nature in the marine sciences at the Intermediate, Senior and Honours
levels. Strong research and coursework postgraduate programs are
also available. Staff from the School of Biological Sciences and
the School of Geosciences teach these units.
News
The 2008 program for the University of the Sea / Université de la Mer is now being finalised. The University of the Sea is a partnership between the University of Sydney, Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO & many other Universities & research centres in the Australasian & Indo-Pacific region. The University of the Sea is dedicated to building marine science capacity in the Asia Pacific region & aims to bring together senior researchers & young local scholars to address marine science issues of direct interest to their region. The first PACSWIN Submarine cable Workshop is to be held in Pusan, Korea, 27-28 April, 2009. Dr John You, of the School of Geosciences and USIMS, is co-chair of the Organizing Committee for the workshop. Full details of the workshop are available for download in PDF format.
